The summer crew invited Richard (Woody) Wood to visit and celebrate his 80th Birthday! Woody retired from the former Illinois Cereal Mill March 2003 and started working for Shiloh in April. He helped with summer cleaning, sub-janitor, drove students, and took care of almost every evening/weekend event for 17 years. This summer he is retiring from Shiloh, but will still be on the Hume Fire Dept. Heck, he started cleaning the old Hume Grade School when he was 7 years old. His day was custodian there and after morning paper route, Woody went to school to clean boards, and help get the fire going to heat the school. Everyone will miss his smile an kind words at the ballgames, but we all know he will be still be busy working at home!

Our world has certainly changed over the past few weeks. Since the yearbook is a record of a school year, we would be remiss if our current situation was not included in that record. Please take a moment to share your and your children’s thoughts to be part of this year’s publication (no political comments please).
First, what are some of the changes (big and little) that have impacted your daily lives?
Second, what are some of the “silver linings” that you have noticed during this “shelter-in-place”?
Next, what do you miss?
And finally, what “life lessons” have you learned?
Please feel free to respond to one or all of these. You can respond here, through my Mrs. Saddoris Facebook page or my email (saddorisk@shiloh1.org).
Thank you so much and have a great summer!

Seniors: We have one more scholarship available on the website. The Douglas County Republican Committee Scholarship for students living in Douglas County. It needs to be turned in to me by May 29th so we can have it postmarked that day. Let me know if you have any questions. Jenni Weber-Hall 217-921-4072.

50 years of Education - Quote from Beverly Cleary. A prolific children's author, Clear is now 103 (born in 1916) starting school before most believed in education for all. Her memory "The first grade was separated into three reading groups—Bluebirds, Redbirds, and Blackbirds. I was a Blackbird. To be a Blackbird was to be disgraced. I wanted to read, but somehow could not." With the help of a school librarian who introduced her to books she enjoyed, Cleary caught up by third grade and started to spend a lot of time reading and at the library. By sixth grade, a teacher suggested that she become a children's writer based on essays she had written.
