Thank you to the sponsor of our Science Camp last month! Northwest Earth and Space Sciences Pathways (NESSP) sent all the supplies that were needed for camp.
NESSP is one of NASA’s Science Activation Teams and is funded through the NASA Science Mission Directorate.
NASA centers have traditionally acted as hubs for professional development for teachers, access points for NASA educational materials, and on-site experiences for teachers and students. NESSP serves as a “virtual NASA center," giving students and teachers in our region access to innovative and informative educational materials that engage student interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Registration is tomorrow, August 6th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Shiloh Multipurpose room. The elementary doors will be unlocked at 10 a.m.
Parents will be able to register students online using school Chromebooks and WiFi.
You may drop off any physical or other required forms for your student.
Registration is due by August 10th. If your student is not returning to Shiloh, please contact your student office so they can be exited.
Due to projected low participation,5th grade girls will be eligible to participate on the JH Softball team for the 2024 season. All interested 5th graders should have a current physical on file at their school office and be at practice no later than Wednesday August 7. Practices are 4-5:50 pm Monday-Friday at Shiloh. Please make sure that you dress in softball attire and bring your softball glove.

Partnership in Parenting gathered for their first group connection of their new program year at the Newman Regional Library. To continue the Summer Reading Program theme of "Read, Renew, Repeat," this group's focus was based on the board book "The Life of a Plastic Bottle" by Suzanne Fossey.
The children helped Miss Lori read about all the different adventures an empty plastic bottle had around the neighborhood. Finally, the bottle became an upcycled bird feeder. The PIP-Squeaks used their small muscle skills to decorate their own plastic bottles with tape and markers before filling them with seed. When the activity was complete, the children were amazed that the bird feeders they made looked just like the one in the story!
An end-of-summer bash with games and entertainment will be held 10 AM - 3 PM (with pizza at noon) at the Newman Library on Saturday, August 3, to celebrate the conclusion of the Summer Reading Program. PIP will also be partnering with GOAL and the library to host a Touch-a-Truck event and car seat safety check at the Newman Community Center that day from 12 - 2 PM.

The Hidden in Plain Sight initiative helps parents, educators, and caregivers spot signs of at-risk behaviors using an interactive display of a teenagers bedroom. After walking through the display, participants will learn more about adolescent development and common signs of substance use. The presentation educates and empowers parents to communicate with their children about at-risk behaviors that could lead to substance use disorders. A strong parent-teen relationship is the most effective tool to prevent youth substance use!

Tri-County Jr High Softball Practice begins on Monday, July 29 from 4-5:50 pm at Shiloh. This is for any 6th, 7th or 8th grade student from Kansas, Oakland or Shiloh schools. Practice shuttle will leave from Kansas at 3:15 pm and from Oakland at approximately 3:30 pm. Please make sure that you have turned in a current sports physical to your school office before the first practice.

Each lesson builds off the lesson before, with hands-on techniques and cooking skills. Children will gain confidence to independently prepare healthy foods for themselves and their families using their newly learned talents.
Hope Dennis will be conducting this week-long cooking school for children. They will make two recipes a day and will get to eat what they create!

Opening: Parent Educator/Home Visitor
Partnership in Parenting (PIP) is a free and voluntary program that offers services to families and their children beginning prenatally through three years old. Home visitors support families in their parenting journeys through fun activities that help caregivers better understand child development and encourage interactions with their children, support family well-being, and promote school readiness.
Salary begins at $43,578.
Don't Forget about those sports physicals!
The Douglas County Health Department will again hold physical clinics at Shiloh this summer. There are two dates: June 27th and August 8th. Both clinics will be held from 9 to 4:30. This is a great opportunity to fulfill school physical requirements for students in first-year Preschool, Kindergarten, 6th, and 9th grades. The clinic is also offering sports physicals.
School and sports physicals will have a nominal fee of $5 for sports physicals and $10 for school physicals. If parents/guardians would prefer DCHC to bill insurance, we can bill commercial insurance plans and all Illinois Medicaid plans. Vaccines for commercially insured, Medicaid-insured, and uninsured students will be provided as available at the events. Use this link to sign up today!
