Welcome to the 23-24 school year! We are very excited about the start of the new year! It has been a busy summer with Tutoring and Meals. Over 60 students attended tutoring, and over half of them made the attendance goal to earn the reward field trip! Thanks to Joni at the Front Street Market, all of our drivers (Randi, Garrett, Jacob, and Nate) and Zach and Teresa in the office to make sure things ran as smoothly as possible. We were able to feed 35% of our student population.
We will begin to implement a program called The Power of ICU this school year. This will be a 3-5 year process for our district, and will mainly affect students in 5th-12th grades. If a student is missing an assignment, parents/guardians will receive an email and a text informing them of the assignment. An email and text will go out when the assignment is turned in, as well. We are planning on holding Academic Lab (homework tutoring) before school, over lunch, after school and on Saturdays. There will be ICU presentations at Back to School night on Tuesday, August 15th, in the school library, at 5:30 PM and 6:15 PM. If you have any questions, please reach out to us!
Skill tutoring through Illinois State University (ISU) will continue in the fall. We have LOVED this program, and have found great success over the past school year and this summer. Skill tutoring will be on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. If you are interested in getting your student involved in tutoring, please be on the lookout for registration forms. We will start the week of Sept. 11th, and it is for 3rd-8th graders.
Our Open House is Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7 PM. Please consider coming out to meet your students' teachers! The first day of school is Thursday, August 17th and it is a 2:05 out day. As a reminder, every Wednesday this school year will be 2:05 out days.
As always, if you have any concerns or questions this school year, please reach out to us. It is going to be a fantastic year!
Sincerely, Bill Myers

Partnership in Parenting enjoyed their July group at the Newman Regional Library to continue the Summer Reading Program. This year's theme is "Find Your Voice," and the focus this month was kindness. Miss Katrina read the book "Hands Are Not for Hitting" by Martine Agassi, PhD. The children did a wonderful job of joining in the motions as the story talked about what hands ARE for instead of hitting.
During the activities, PIP-Squeaks traced their hands and used small muscle skills to color their pictures with paint dobbers. They also spent a lot of time exploring three different kinds of sensory bins. The children practiced lots of kind sharing and helping each other during play! They each chose a kindness book before heading home.
Be sure to attend the end of Summer Reading Program party at the Newman library on Saturday, August 5. There will be games all day, starting at 9:00 AM. At noon, there will be Pizza Man pizza for lunch followed by Mr Steve's balloon animals and magic show at 1:00 PM. All activities are free!
